IATA urges stronger controls on undeclared dangerous goods in air cargo
IATA published a cargo-safety white paper calling for a layered approach to undeclared and misdeclared dangerous goods. It says lithium batteries are among the concealed commodities most often identified and that security screening alone is not a primary compliance solution; responsibility must begin upstream with shippers, sellers and logistics partners.
What it means
This is safety guidance, not a new transport rule. Battery exporters should nevertheless tighten product classification, UN 38.3 evidence, state-of-charge and packing checks, shipper declarations, staff training and hand-off records. Marketplaces and consolidators should screen listings and suppliers before cargo reaches an airline rather than treating airport inspection as the final control.
